With Coronavirus having such a big impact on everybody’s daily lives, it is important to look after your mental health during COVID19. It has brought new stresses and strains including possibly your stag party or wedding being cancelled. Now, more than ever, it is very important to look after your mental health.
Through daily communication, The Stag’s Balls team keep each other up-to-date from a work point of view but also from a personal point of view because we understand it’s good to talk to each other and share how we are all getting through the COVID19 lockdown. Instead of helping with some ways to plan a mental stag do, here are some of the ways in which we are looking after our mental health and wellbeing.
1. Mindfulness
This is something I never gave much thought to. It’s been a “buzz” word for the last few years and I was somewhat curious about the benefits. However, at the same time, I was sceptical that it might have been too spiritual or hippy dippy for me. How wrong I was.
Setting myself 5 or 10 minutes each day to meditate allows me to destress, keeps me grounded and also somewhat sane! I used the Headspace app and found it to be a very simple and instructive way for beginners to start. I just can’t wait now for my next stag party to teach all the lads about loving each other and being kind… that should be interesting…
2. Routine / Structure
Routine makes the days go by quicker. It allows you to have a structure to your day which in turn provides certainty and takes away the need of having to make decisions which can lead to overthinking.
Our recommended stag party format has a tried and trusted structure of accommodation, daytime activities, nighttime activities and food (e.g. in Carrick-on-Shannon). Why not break down your COVID19 lockdown days into something similar?
3. Exercise
There has been no better excuse than right now of starting that exercise regime you have been telling all the lads in the stag group about. You don’t have to go at it full tilt either. Walks are a great way to start and especially great for your mental health during COVID19. It will get you out of the house and you’ll probably start noticing and appreciating things in your local area more.
Remember, there is only one way to eat an elephant – and that’s one bite at a time… No gym? No problem, just get the thinking cap on. I’m sure the Mrs. wouldn’t mind doubling up as some weights. Before you know it, it’ll be time for the stag party and the lads won’t recognise you when you rock up sporting a set of guns Jean Claude Van Damme would be proud of.
4. Talk To Your Mates
If there’s one thing lads can be accused of, it’s bottling up our emotions and not talking about them enough. Why not schedule a weekly call with the Stag Party group? Or, if your stag do has been cancelled check out our Top Coronavirus Stag Party Ideas and Virtual Stag Party Ideas at Home.
It will be good to catch up with everyone and see how they all are. While there may not be much happening in each person’s lives at the moment, at least sharing that with each other may bring some solace. If you’re planning on really releasing those emotions, just keep the Man-Size Kleenex to hand.
5. Jobs Around The House And Home
There’s no doubt your significant other has been at you for a while to fix that leaky tap or to hang up that shelf in the sitting room. Well, there’s no better time. You’ll find endless youtube tutorials on home DIY tips and tricks to keep you busy and help improve your mental health during COVID19. Then, when you’ve finished any projects big or small, send them into the stag party WhatsApp group and you can all compare and contrast.
You never know you might pick up some tips from your fellow Stag Do group members!
6. News / Social Media
This is something I made a conscious decision to ease up on recently. At the start, I found myself endlessly scrolling through Facebook or Instagram for large chunks of the day. All it does is increase the stress levels! Keep the news feeds to a minimum and just watch out for the important stuff like government advice, when is the Premiership returning, when can stag parties return etc – then you’re on to a winner 🙂 No news is good news, as they say!
7. Reschedule Your Stag Party
If your stag party has been cancelled, why not reschedule it for a later time in the year or even next year? It will give everyone something to look forward to and there’ll be plenty of time to plan an epic stag party weekend. Check out our Ultimate List of Stag Do Rules and Forfeits for some inspiration!
Get in touch and we’d be happy to help you organise your stag and take that stress away from you so you can concentrate on your mental health during COVID19.
