Introduction
What can be said about Liverpool that hasn’t already been said? It’s a cultural mecca, a footballing powerhouse, and an all-around friendly and very diverse modern city. It’s also filled with people who know how to party. Liverpool city centre has seen some real investment and regeneration over the years and it was named European Capital of Culture back in 2008. Since then, it’s continued to flourish and is famous for its galleries, music (obvs…), festivals and events. Basically, it’s the perfect city for a good stag weekend.

Local knowledge
Liverpool is filled with funky clubs, bars, casinos, music venues, museums, and galleries. It has so much to offer visitors and there’s always a new exhibition, bar opening, or festival on offer, making it a unique experience for a stag party.

How to get to Liverpool
General
Liverpool has more transport options than you can shake a stick at. There are 2 main train stations, an international airport, two large bus stations, and good parking facilities.

From London – 220 Miles
Stuffing your stag party in the back of a car and making the trip by road will take a little more than 4 hours. Direct trains run from Euston and cover the distance in around 2.5 hours. Flying is obviously faster, but hanging around at either end means the total journey is longer, plus factoring in the travel time to and from the airports. The fastest coach journey is just shy of 5 hours.

From Edinburgh – 221 Miles
Hitting the road in a car for the stag weekend takes an average of around 4 hours 15 minutes, whereas hopping the train from Edinburgh’s Waverley Station will get you there in 3 hours 30 minutes with a train to Wigan and a quick change to Liverpool Lime Street. Like with London, the actual flight times are short but the baggage checks and security means it’s way longer than it appears… Coaches from Edinburgh will deposit you in Liverpool in around 9 hours.

From Cardiff – 200 Miles
There’s no direct train from Cardiff Central, but a quick change at Crewe will get you to Lime Street in a reasonable average of 3.5 hours. Hopping a coach with the stag party will take you anywhere between 6.5 to 9.5 hours, depending on the route.

From Belfast
Travel from Belfast obviously involves a combination of transport, unless you stag do lads are extremely strong swimmers. The ferry crossing from Belfast to Liverpool on StenaLIne takes around 8 hours, but you do have the option to make it an overnight crossing and book your stag party a few cabins to get some kip. You can make the crossing as foot passengers or with a car, depending on what your onward plans are.

Accommodation
Liverpool has a lot of everything. While the city centre and out into the more rural areas of Wirral have some pretty exclusive, high-end digs, there’s a great range of middle-of-the-road and budget options across most areas of the city.

Hotels
The Britannia Adelphi is located in a fantastic location, close to the city centre and Albert Docks. It has a leisure centre and a resident’s bar to keep you occupied on your stag party down time, and also provides parking – which can be expensive in the city. The hotel has a solid 3-star rating, so it’s reasonably priced, clean, and has modern, well-appointed rooms.

Daytime activities
It’s against the law to visit Liverpool without at the very least popping out to Anfield or Goodison Park and taking a stadium tour. Whether you fall on the red or the blue side of the city is entirely up to you but with both teams being located so close to one another, it’s not outwith the realms of possibility for you and your stag do to make it a double whammy. As with most other city rivals, scheduling dictates that while one plays at home, the other plays away, so you can at least pretty much be confident that there will be a fixture if your visit falls within the regular season.

If your stag party likes golf and drinking, Ghetto Golf allows you to do the two activities in the same space. Ghetto Golf is a popular evening and weekend venture and is a neon wonderland of oddly shaped greens and obstacles that would even test Dustin Johnston to his limits. We doubt he’d manage to win a green jacket in Liverpool, if we’re being perfectly honest. Mind you, he probably doesn’t usually drink much beer while he’s playing, so that could be why he’s world number 1. Anyhoo, you and the lads can have your own Open Championship and pretend you’re the European Ryder Cup Team, while the blokes coming on after you can be designated at the USA team.

When you hear the term ‘watersports’ you might recoil in horror at the prospect but that’s because you’ve got a really filthy mind. When we talk about watersports we are, of course, talking about the sports you do on the River Mersey when in Liverpool. The watersports centre offers up a great range of totally mental Wipe-Out style games that you can challenge the stag do lads to. Take a few bets to see who you think will come out on top and who actually does. You might well be surprised.

If your stag weekend mates are fans of Peaky Blinders and you couldn’t make it to Birmingham, you’ll be pleased to hear that all the Liverpool filming locations can be covered in an excellent guided tour. You’ll be taken around the city centre sports used for filming, as well as outlying areas, such as Port Sunlight on Wirral. This is a must for fans of the show and a fun way to spend a few hours of your stag do.

Nighttime activities
Every music lover knows about Liverpool’s massive contribution to the musical world and with the Liverpool Echo Arena on the banks of the Mersey, and the smaller venues (such as the legendary Cavern Club), Liverpool remains at the epicentre of all things musical. Finding a new local band or a well-established household name is never difficult in the city and it’s a great way to spend a few hours on your stag weekend. If you happen to be a fan of The Beatles, you should definitely check out The Beatles Story and their permanent exhibit at the Museum of Liverpool at Albert Dock.

If you like your activities to be spooky, book the stag weekenders up for a ghost tour around the city. You’ll visit haunted graveyards, buildings, and cathedrals, because that’s where ghosts like to be, obviously. You’ll also start and end your tour next to pubs, so we think it kinda sells itself, to be honest.

A bar crawl is probably the most fun you can have in Liverpool, due to the sheer number of premises to choose from. One of the trendiest and most vibrant areas of the city for nightlife is Concert Square and the surrounding streets. It’s absolutely buzzing at the weekends and the atmosphere is always fun. Be prepared to meet other stag dos while you’re out and about.

Food options
Whilst Caribou Poutine is a pretty small establishment, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in flavour. Offering the Canadian nation dish with a variety of toppings and sizes, it’s the perfect comfort food option and, dare we say it, even better than a kebab when you roll out of one of the surrounding clubs at 1 am. You may think you know what chips and cheese taste like, but you don’t know anything until you’ve had authentic Canadian poutine. Try it out – your stag lads will love you for it.

Panoramic 34 gets its name from the fact that it’s one of the highest restaurants in the UK. With its floor to ceiling windows, it sits on the 34th floor of the West Tower at 300 feet above sea level. Not only does it offer a great fine dining menu, drinks, and a plush cocktail bar, but you can indulge in it all while your stag party looks out across the iconic Liverpool skyline.

Indigo Greens was voted Liverpool’s best vegan restaurant in 2019 and is popular with meat-eaters as much as it is with those who don’t indulge. Everything on the menu is plant-based, so healthy options are a-plenty. Once you’ve tried their burgers and hotdogs, you’ll be hard-pushed to explain why you don’t have meat-free days in your diet. For a healthier alternative to steak and chips, this is a great option for a stag party dinner.

Conclusion
Liverpool isn’t continually named one of the UK’s friendliest cities without good reason. The city is genuinely easy going and the atmosphere is always welcoming. Liverpool also ranked very highly in a survey where people thought it was easy to make new friends – and they weren’t wrong. You probably better take along some extra wedding invitations on the stag weekend for all the new mates you’ll find.
